Police urge student to file complaint as controversy deepens, CCTV footage and alleged college influence add new twist to Nagarjuna PU College case

Chikkaballapur: The controversy surrounding the alleged removal of a sacred thread (Janivara) during the Common Entrance Test (CET) in Chikkaballapur has taken a complex turn, as the candidate at the centre of the row has not yet filed a formal police complaint, despite repeated appeals from authorities.

The incident involves K.R. Supreet, a CET examinee, who had earlier alleged that his Janivara was cut and thrown into a dustbin during security checks at Nagarjuna PU College. However, both the student and his parents are reportedly hesitant to lodge an official complaint, creating uncertainty for investigators.

Police in a Dilemma Over Lack of Formal Complaint

Officials from Nandigiridham Police Station have stated that without a direct complaint from the victim, the case cannot proceed conventionally. While a petition has been submitted by community members, police sources clarified that such petitions cannot replace an individual complaint.

“If the candidate files a complaint in person, action can be initiated. A petition signed by others cannot be treated as a formal complaint,” senior police sources indicated.

CCTV Footage Adds New Twist

In a significant development, CCTV footage reviewed by investigators reportedly contradicts the initial claim. While Supreet had stated that his sacred thread was cut and discarded, footage allegedly shows him hanging the Janivara on a tree himself after the incident.

Police have since recorded both a video statement and written testimony from the student to document his version and address any future legal queries.

Incident Recreated at Examination Centre

To establish clarity, police conducted a reconstruction of the entire sequence at the college premises. Supreet was brought back to the examination centre, where officials retraced his movements, interactions, and the sequence of events related to the alleged removal of the Janivara.

Investigators are examining who was present, what actions were taken by staff, and how the incident unfolded, as part of the ongoing probe.

Allegations of Institutional Influence Surface

Amid the evolving developments, allegations have surfaced suggesting that the management of the examination centre may have influenced the candidate’s decision not to file a complaint. However, these claims remain unverified.

Minister Orders Probe, Expresses Concern

Reacting to the controversy, Karnataka Minister Dr. M.C. Sudhakar expressed concern and directed authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.

“Why was there a need to remove the Janivara? A proper inquiry must be conducted and appropriate action taken,” the Minister said, adding that reports indicate no formal complaint has yet been filed.

Background of the Incident

Supreet, a resident of Chintamani in Chikkaballapur district, had appeared for the CET exam at the Nagarjuna PU College centre. He initially alleged that college staff forcibly removed his sacred thread during frisking, triggering widespread debate and community reactions.

The case now remains mired in contradictions, procedural hurdles, and public scrutiny, as authorities await a formal complaint to proceed further.
