Police in Soraba arrested former municipal president and BJP leader Prabhu Mestri after a complaint alleged marital harassment and an extramarital affair linked to his wife’s death
Shivamogga: A shocking case has emerged from Karnataka’s Soraba town after the wife of a local BJP leader was found dead by suicide. Police have arrested former Soraba municipal president and BJP functionary Prabhu Mestri following allegations of harassment made in a complaint filed by the deceased woman’s family.
The deceased has been identified as Manjula, 38, originally from Hosa Veerapura village in Haveri district.
Complaint Alleges Harassment and Affair
According to police sources, Manjula’s mother lodged a complaint alleging that her daughter had been under severe emotional distress due to her husband’s conduct, including accusations of an alleged extramarital relationship and repeated physical and mental harassment.
Based on the complaint, Soraba Police registered a case and took Prabhu Mestri into custody for investigation.
Police said the matter is under investigation and further facts will emerge based on evidence and witness statements.
Family Claims Repeated Disputes
The complaint reportedly states that family elders and relatives had previously tried to counsel Prabhu Mestri regarding his alleged relationship with a woman said to be employed at his hardware shop. However, the disputes allegedly continued.
The family also alleged that these domestic tensions deeply affected Manjula.

Reports further claim that Prabhu Mestri had been married previously before marrying Manjula. Investigators are expected to verify all personal and family claims as part of the case process.
He was also previously associated with the political camp of Kumar Bangarappa, according to local reports.
