28-Year-Old Housewife Ends Life After Domestic Dispute in Mahadevapura, Police Book Husband Under Abetment Charges

Bengaluru: In a disturbing incident reported under the Mahadevapura police limits, a 28-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide following prolonged domestic distress linked to her husband’s online betting habits and alcohol addiction. Police have arrested the husband on charges of abetment to suicide.

The deceased, identified as Kanaga, was living in a rented house in A. Narayanapura with her husband and their two-year-old son.

Domestic Disputes and Financial Stress

According to police, Kanaga and her husband Shankar, a native of Tamil Nadu, were engaged in a small fruit business for their livelihood. The couple had married in 2023 and initially lived in Tamil Nadu before moving to Bengaluru amid family intervention over frequent disputes.

Investigations reveal that Shankar had allegedly incurred heavy debts due to online betting and alcohol consumption, leading to repeated quarrels at home. The situation reportedly worsened over financial disagreements, including disputes over earnings from their business.

Incident Following Heated Argument

Police said the couple had a heated argument on April 19, reportedly over money and allegations related to betting activities. Following the altercation, Kanaga allegedly died by suicide by hanging.

Police sources indicated that the act followed a period of ongoing domestic tension and emotional distress.

Husband Arrested, Probe Underway

Based on a complaint filed by Kanaga’s sister, police registered a case and arrested Shankar on charges of abetment to suicide. He has been remanded to judicial custody.

Authorities are continuing the investigation to examine the sequence of events, including financial transactions, communication records, and witness statements.

Family Left Devastated

The incident has left behind a grieving family, including the couple’s young child. It has also raised concerns about the impact of addiction, financial instability, and domestic conflicts on mental health and family life.
