Bengaluru: A parking dispute that escalated into an alleged assault on a devotee and a woman in Bengaluru’s Basavanagudi has triggered a larger debate on whether law enforcement is becoming optional in the city.
The incident occurred near Puttige Mutt, a prominent religious place, where a college student allegedly assaulted a devotee and a visiting woman following an argument over parking.

According to reports, the student had parked his vehicle in a restricted zone outside the mutt, leading to an objection from a devotee.
The situation quickly escalated into a heated argument and reportedly turned into a physical assault, with allegations that the student also attacked a woman present at the scene.
“Despite serious allegations, the case did not result in a formal complaint being registered,” sources said.\
Police Opt for Compromise, No FIR Filed
Both parties approached the Basavanagudi Police Station following the incident.
However, instead of initiating legal proceedings, police reportedly called the student’s parents, issued a warning, and resolved the matter through mutual compromise.
No First Information Report (FIR) was registered, citing the student’s future and the willingness of both parties to settle the matter.
