Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar says a large-scale operation is underway to avert rain-related mishaps, and urges citizens to report risky trees

Bengaluru: In a major public safety initiative, the Bengaluru North City Corporation has intensified the removal of dry and hazardous trees and branches across its jurisdiction to prevent potential accidents during adverse weather conditions.

Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar stated that the drive is aimed at protecting lives and property, especially during unexpected rains and strong winds, which often lead to falling trees and branches.

Massive Tree Removal Drive Across Zones

According to official data, the corporation has undertaken extensive removal operations between September 2, 2025, and March 31, 2026, covering multiple zones in North Bengaluru.

In Zone-1, which includes Byatarayanapura, Sarvagnanagar, and Pulakeshinagar:

  • 86 dangerous trees were removed
  • 1,315 hazardous branches were cleared

In Zone-2, covering Yelahanka, Hebbal, parts of Dasarahalli, and Rajarajeshwari:

  • 97 dangerous trees were removed
  • 1,193 branches were cut down

Total Action Taken:

  • 183 dangerous trees removed
  • 2,508 hazardous branches cleared

Preventive Measure Amid Weather Concerns

Officials stated that the initiative is a preventive safety measure, particularly as Bengaluru faces frequent weather fluctuations, including heavy rain and gusty winds, which increase the risk of tree falls.

Continuous Monitoring and Action

The civic body confirmed that regular inspections and removal drives will continue in the coming days to identify potential threats and ensure urban safety.

The corporation has appealed to citizens to actively participate by reporting any dry or risky trees and branches.
