Serious pollution allegations have surfaced in Bengaluru after residents claimed a major apartment complex was releasing untreated sewage through pipes into Lower Ambalipura Lake near Iblur

Bengaluru: Even as Bengaluru continues its battle to save disappearing lakes, fresh outrage has erupted after a prestigious apartment complex was accused of discharging polluted water directly into Lower Ambalipura Lake, one of the city’s important water bodies.

The allegations relate to Trinity Acres and Wood Apartment, located near Iblur, where residents themselves have raised concerns that untreated sewage is being released through pipelines into the lake.

The incident has triggered demands for urgent action from civic and environmental authorities.

Direct Sewage Discharge Alleged Through Pipes
According to complaints, the apartment complex, which houses nearly 300 families, is allegedly diverting wastewater through two pipes directly into the lake.

Residents claim the sewage is being released without proper treatment through a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), posing a severe threat to the lake ecosystem and the surrounding environment.

If proven true, the alleged discharge could violate pollution control norms and lake protection regulations.
“The lake was restored years ago with huge public effort, but now it is being damaged again,” a resident reportedly said.
Residents Turn Against Their Own Association
In a rare twist, some people living inside the same apartment complex have reportedly spoken out against their own residents’ association.

Local resident Akshata alleged that concerns were repeatedly brought to the attention of the apartment management, but no effective action was taken.
She said the lake had earlier been rejuvenated at a cost of lakhs of rupees, only to now face fresh contamination.
Locals Demand Immediate Probe
Residents and environmental supporters have now urged:

BBMP officials to inspect the site
Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) to test the water quality
Strict legal action against those responsible if violations are confirmed

They also alleged that apart from these pipes, there is currently no other known sewage inflow into Lower Ambalipura Lake.
