58-year-old long-serving Gram Panchayat worker dies after sudden collapse during duty in Vijayanagara district, raising concerns over employee health and workplace stress
Ballari: In a tragic incident, a Gram Panchayat staff member collapsed while on duty and later passed away, sending shockwaves through the local community in Vijayanagara district.
The incident occurred in Sitaram Thanda under Hospet taluk, where the deceased, Gangappa L (58), was serving as a Gram Panchayat waterman (Neeraganti). He reportedly collapsed suddenly while performing his duties, leaving colleagues and locals in panic.
A Life Dedicated to Service
Gangappa had been working tirelessly for nearly 29 years in the Gram Panchayat, earning respect and recognition for his commitment. His sudden demise has left the entire village mourning the loss of a dedicated public servant.
According to sources, Gangappa had been suffering from health issues in recent days. Despite undergoing treatment and briefly taking rest, he had returned to work, showcasing his dedication. However, his condition worsened unexpectedly while on duty.
Hospitalization and Final Moments
Following the collapse, family members rushed him to the government hospital in Hospet. Due to the seriousness of his condition, he was later shifted to Koppal Institute of Medical Sciences for advanced treatment. Unfortunately, he did not respond to treatment and was declared dead.

The sudden loss of a long-serving staff member has deeply affected residents of the area. Locals have expressed grief and highlighted the need for regular health check-ups and better support systems for government workers engaged in physically demanding roles.
