Family catches accused in the act; case registered under POCSO Act as police launch detailed investigation

Bhadoni: In a shocking incident from Bhadohi, a 58-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his six-year-old granddaughter, police confirmed on Friday. The case has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over child safety within households.

According to officials, the accused was caught by family members, but managed to flee the scene temporarily when they rushed the child to a hospital for treatment.

The incident reportedly took place on March 17, when the child’s mother was not at home. Other family members were present on the ground floor when they heard the child’s cries early in the morning.

Responding immediately, they rushed upstairs and found the accused allegedly assaulting the child, said Sachchidanand Pandey, in charge of the local police station.

Accused Flees, Later Arrested
As the family hurried the child to a nearby hospital, the accused escaped from the house. After the child’s condition stabilised, her father filed a formal complaint later that night.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act), which deals with crimes against minors.

The accused was later tracked down and arrested from a relative’s house based on specific intelligence inputs.
“Strict action is being taken under POCSO provisions. The investigation is ongoing,” police officials stated.
Investigation Underway
Authorities are continuing their investigation to gather further evidence and ensure swift legal action. The incident has deeply disturbed the local community, with calls for stronger safeguards for children.
