Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s Sequel Struggles at Box Office Despite Festival Weekend, Six-Day Total Stands at ₹20.15 Crore
Mumbai: The much-anticipated sequel to the controversial 2023 blockbuster, The Kerala Story 2, appears to be struggling at the box office as its earnings failed to witness a significant jump even during the Holi holiday. The film, produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh, recorded modest numbers on its sixth day in theatres.
Trade estimates suggest that the film managed to collect ₹3.50 crore on Day 6, which coincided with the Holi festival across India. The figure reflects a decline compared to the previous day, indicating that the holiday failed to provide the expected boost to the film’s box office performance.
The sequel had generated considerable buzz ahead of its release, primarily because the original The Kerala Story, released in 2023, had created nationwide debate while simultaneously emerging as a commercial success.
Holi Holiday Fails to Lift Collections
Film analysts had predicted that the festival holiday would help the film attract larger audiences to theatres. Historically, Indian films tend to witness higher footfall during festive periods, including Holi.
However, the trend did not repeat for The Kerala Story 2, as the film’s collections remained relatively subdued on its sixth day.
According to early box office data, the film earned ₹4 crore on its fifth day, which means the Holi collection saw a noticeable dip rather than an increase.
Industry observers note that despite the festival advantage, the movie failed to sustain momentum, raising questions about its long-term box office prospects.
Cast and Performances
The film features performances by Ulka Gupta, Aishwarya Ojha, and Aditi Bhatia in key roles.
The storyline continues to explore themes connected to the narrative introduced in the first installment, though audience reception appears to be considerably lower compared to the original film.
Six-Day Total Collection
It has now been six days since the theatrical release of the film. According to available trade figures, The Kerala Story 2 has collected approximately ₹20.15 crore at the domestic box office so far.
The highest single-day collection for the film came on Day 3, when it earned ₹4.75 crore, which remains its best-performing day since release.
Despite moderate openings during the first weekend, the film has not been able to cross the ₹5 crore mark on any single day, highlighting the slow pace of its overall earnings.
Day-Wise Box Office Performance
- Day 1 – Opening collection modest
- Day 2 – Slight growth recorded
- Day 3 – ₹4.75 crore (highest single-day collection)
- Day 4 – Decline begins
- Day 5 – ₹4 crore
- Day 6 (Holi) – ₹3.50 crore
Trade analysts say the coming weekend will be crucial for determining whether the film can regain momentum or continue its slow run at the box office.
