Quick action by teacher Ravi Shankar prevents tragedy after cobra bites student during lunch break at school in Hunasekatte village
Chitradurga: In a dramatic incident that has drawn widespread praise, a teacher risked his own life to save a student after a cobra bite inside a school campus in Hunasekatte village of Chitradurga taluk.
The incident occurred when a student identified as Shristi was bitten by a cobra while sitting on the school premises and eating lunch after classes. The sudden snake attack left the girl bleeding from her leg and crying in pain, creating panic among students and staff.
However, the quick and courageous response of a teacher helped prevent what could have turned into a life-threatening tragedy.
Teacher Acts Instantly After Snake Bite
According to local sources, teacher Ravi Shankar, who noticed the student in distress, immediately rushed to her assistance. Without wasting time, he reportedly placed his mouth on the snakebite wound and sucked out the venom, spitting it out repeatedly in an attempt to reduce the poison in her body.
He then tied a cloth tightly around the girl’s leg to restrict the spread of venom and quickly arranged to shift her to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Due to the swift intervention and first aid provided by the teacher, doctors said the student escaped a potentially dangerous situation.
Both the student and Teacher Hospitalised
After reaching the hospital, the injured student was immediately treated by doctors. Medical officials later confirmed that the girl is now out of danger and is being kept under observation.
Meanwhile, teacher Ravi Shankar, who had sucked out the venom from the snakebite wound, reportedly began feeling unwell and was also admitted to the Chitradurga district hospital for medical examination and treatment.
Doctors have now confirmed that both the teacher and the student are safe and recovering, bringing relief to the local community.
Villagers Kill Cobra, Officials Praise Teacher
Following the incident, villagers and school staff managed to capture and kill the large cobra that had entered the school premises.
Officials from the Education Department have praised teacher Ravi Shankar for his extraordinary courage, presence of mind and dedication toward protecting his student.
Locals and fellow teachers have also hailed him as a hero for putting his own life at risk to save a child, turning what could have been a tragic incident into a story of bravery and compassion.
