Shocking betrayal as contract killer Ajay Mishra turns on the woman who hired him, strangles her and escapes with cash and gold before dramatic arrest
Raipur: A hitman hired to kill a woman’s son instead murdered the woman herself and looted valuables, before evading police for nearly five years. The accused, Ajay Mishra, has now been arrested by the crime branch in Ahmedabad, bringing a breakthrough in the sensational 2021 case from Raipur.
According to police investigations, Shakuntala Yadav and her younger son, Amit Yadav, had allegedly hired Ajay Mishra, a hospital security guard, to kill her elder son. A deal of Rs 4 lakh was reportedly struck, with Rs 1 lakh paid in advance.
However, Mishra never carried out the contract killing. Instead, he fled with the advance money to his native village, dodging both the family and authorities.
From Hitman to Killer of the Employer
Months later, when Shakuntala and Amit tracked him down and demanded the return of their money, Mishra promised to repay. But in a chilling turn of events, he returned not to settle the dues but to eliminate the woman who had hired him.
“The accused, along with his associate, visited the victim’s house and strangled her before fleeing with cash and gold,” police officials revealed.
Brutal Killing and Robbery
Police stated that Mishra, along with accomplice Ketan Tiwari, allegedly strangled Shakuntala Yadav using a rope. After committing the crime, they looted nearly Rs 10 lakh in cash and 350–450 grams of gold jewellery, later sold the stolen gold.
Five Years on the Run
To evade arrest, Mishra adopted extreme measures—abandoning his mobile phone and avoiding the use of identity documents like PAN and Aadhaar. He kept moving across multiple locations before eventually settling in the Naroda area of Ahmedabad in 2022, staying under the radar.
Arrest After Years of Investigation
Following years of investigation and fresh intelligence inputs, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch successfully tracked down and arrested Mishra. Police confirmed that further legal proceedings are underway, and efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the crime.

Authorities are continuing their probe into the case, which has exposed a disturbing chain of conspiracy, betrayal, and murder, leaving the local community in shock.
