Police launch an intensive manhunt after undertrial prisoner Bablu Jat flees custody from the hospital in Baran; disciplinary action begins against escorting officers
Kota: A murder accused lodged in jail in Baran allegedly escaped from a government hospital late Monday night, prompting authorities to launch a massive manhunt and initiate disciplinary action against police personnel responsible for guarding him.
According to police officials, the accused, identified as Bablu Jat, who was lodged in Chhabra jail, managed to flee while receiving treatment at a government hospital in the district. The incident has triggered an immediate security review, with senior officers ordering strict action against those found negligent.
Police Launch Multiple Search Teams
Authorities confirmed that multiple police teams have been constituted to track down the escaped prisoner. Search operations are currently underway across several locations in and around the district to locate the accused at the earliest.
Officials said that disciplinary proceedings and an inquiry have been initiated against five police personnel who were deployed to guard the prisoner at the hospital when the incident occurred.
“Several teams have been formed to trace the accused, and departmental action has been initiated against the personnel responsible for his custody,” a police official said.
The accused was absconding for Nearly Two Decades
Police further revealed that Bablu Jat is a resident of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh and had been absconding for nearly 19 years in connection with a murder case.
The case was originally registered at the Chhipabarod Police Station in Baran district. Investigators said that after remaining on the run for years, the accused had recently been taken into custody and lodged in Chhabra jail before he escaped from the hospital.
Security Lapses Under Investigation
Senior police officials have ordered a departmental inquiry to determine how the prisoner managed to escape despite being under police escort. Authorities are examining possible negligence or procedural lapses that may have facilitated the incident.
The escape has raised serious questions about security arrangements during the medical treatment of undertrial prisoners, and officials have assured that strict action will follow once the inquiry is completed.
Police sources said intensified surveillance and coordination with neighbouring districts have been initiated to ensure the accused is apprehended soon.
