24-year-old dental postgraduate student Stuti Sonwane allegedly faced mental harassment; police register unnatural death case and begin investigation
Mumbai: A 24-year-old dental postgraduate student was found dead at her residence in Mumbai, prompting police to launch an investigation into allegations of mental harassment by her boyfriend. The deceased has been identified as Stuti Sonwane, an MDS (Master of Dental Surgery) student, who was reportedly struggling with emotional distress caused by repeated accusations and humiliating remarks from her partner.
According to police sources, the incident occurred at the family residence of the student near Antop Hill, where she lived with her parents and sister. Authorities have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated an inquiry to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Alleged Mental Harassment by Boyfriend
Preliminary findings suggest that Stuti had been in a relationship with a young man for some time. Investigators say the boyfriend allegedly accused her of cheating and repeatedly subjected her to humiliating and emotionally distressing comments, which reportedly caused severe mental stress.
Sources close to the investigation indicate that the student had been deeply upset by the repeated accusations and emotional pressure, which may have contributed to her deteriorating mental state in recent days.
Discovery at Family Residence
The incident came to light when Stuti’s parents noticed that she had not stepped out of her room until around 11 a.m. the following morning. Concerned about her unusual silence, family members attempted to contact her several times.
When there was no response from inside the room, the family forced open the door, only to find the student unresponsive inside the room, prompting them to immediately alert the authorities.
Police personnel arrived at the spot soon after receiving the information and began preliminary procedures.
Reference to Shraddha Walker Case in Note
Investigators also revealed that a note recovered from the room reportedly mentioned the widely discussed murder case of Shraddha Walker, which had shocked the nation in recent years.
While the exact contents of the note are still being examined, officials say it may provide crucial insights into the emotional distress experienced by the student before the incident.
Police Launch Investigation
Police have registered a case of unnatural death and begun a detailed investigation into the matter. Authorities are now examining the role of the boyfriend, including his interactions with the student in the days leading up to the incident.
Investigators have also recorded statements from family members, while digital communication records and other evidence are being reviewed as part of the probe.
Officials said further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation and forensic examination.
