Delhi resident booked after allegedly smoking inside aircraft lavatory on flight QP1625; airline says safety protocols were followed

New Delhi: A passenger was caught smoking inside the washroom of an Akasa Air flight travelling from New Delhi to Goa, officials said on Sunday. The incident came to light on Monday.

According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday aboard flight QP1625, when a passenger allegedly smoked inside the aircraft lavatory during the journey.

Passenger Identified by Police

Authorities identified the accused as Ashish, a resident of Delhi.

Airline officials said the passenger was found carrying a lighter and was caught smoking inside the washroom, which posed a potential safety risk to the aircraft and those on board.

Handed Over to the Police After Landing

After the aircraft landed in Goa, the passenger was handed over to the authorities at Manohar International Airport.

Police said the act endangered the safety of fellow passengers and the cabin crew during the flight.

Case Registered, Investigation Underway

A case has been registered against the accused at Mopa Airport Police Station under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code.

In its statement, Akasa Air said that the cabin crew followed all necessary safety procedures after detecting the violation and ensured the passenger was handed over to authorities upon arrival.

Officials said the airline will fully cooperate with the investigation.
