55-year-old contract worker electrocuted during repair work in Hebbadi village; body found hanging on pole, probe launched into safety lapses
Mandya: In a tragic and deeply disturbing incident, a 55-year-old lineman lost his life after being electrocuted while working atop an electric pole in Hebbadi village of Srirangapatna taluk, Mandya district. The shocking accident has once again raised serious concerns about worker safety and procedural lapses in electrical maintenance operations.
Fatal Electrocution During Repair Work
The deceased has been identified as Vishwa (55), a resident of Malligere village, who was working as a lineman under a private contractor. According to reports, Vishwa had climbed an electric pole in Hebbadi village for repair work when suddenly electric current passed through the line, leading to a fatal shock.
Death on the Spot
The intensity of the electric shock was so severe that Vishwa died instantly on the pole itself, leaving behind a horrifying scene. Eyewitnesses reported that his lifeless body remained hanging on the pole, triggering panic and distress among local residents.
Villagers in Shock Over Gruesome Scene
The terrifying aftermath of the incident left villagers shaken. Many gathered at the spot, unable to process the sudden and tragic loss. The visuals from the scene have further intensified public concern over on-ground safety practices.
Officials Rush to the Spot
Upon receiving information, officials from CESC (Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation) along with personnel from the Arakere Police Station rushed to the location. Immediate steps were taken to secure the area and begin preliminary inquiries.
Authorities are currently investigating whether the power supply was properly disconnected before the lineman began work or if there was any failure in obtaining mandatory line clearance. A case has been registered under the jurisdiction of Arakere Police Station.
Body Sent for Post-Mortem
Efforts are underway to safely bring down the body from the pole and shift it for post-mortem examination, following standard legal procedures.
