Odisha-origin couple found dead in rented house near Bommasandra; Suryanagar Police probe murder-suicide angle
Anekal: A disturbing incident has come to light from Anekal taluk in Bengaluru district, where a man allegedly murdered his wife, performed symbolic marital rituals after her death, recorded a video, and later died by suicide. The incident, involving a couple originally from Odisha, is being investigated by Suryanagar Police.
The tragic incident occurred at Heelalige village in Anekal taluk, Bengaluru district. The deceased have been identified as Deepant and his wife Manjula, who had married for love and were residing in a rented house. According to preliminary police findings, both were employed at a private company located in Bommasandra.
Minor Dispute Turns Fatal
Police sources revealed that a seemingly trivial argument between the couple last Wednesday escalated into a violent confrontation. During the heated exchange, Deepant allegedly assaulted Manjula, causing fatal injuries that led to her death on the spot.
Disturbing Acts After the Crime
In a shocking sequence of events, the accused reportedly sat beside the body, cried, recorded a video, and applied sindoor on Manjula’s forehead, symbolically portraying her as his wife even after death. Investigators say he later wrote a death note in the Odia language, expressing remorse and emotional turmoil.
After writing the death note, Deepant allegedly ended his life by hanging himself inside the same house. The incident came to light only after the house owner grew suspicious due to prolonged silence and peeped through a window, discovering both bodies lying motionless.
Police Investigation Underway
Personnel from Suryanagar Police immediately rushed to the spot and conducted a preliminary inspection. The bodies were shifted for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and sequence of events. Police confirmed that although the house owner had alerted authorities last Friday, the case surfaced publicly with a delay due to procedural verification.
“The case is being investigated from all angles, including domestic violence and psychological stress. The death note is under verification,” a senior police officer stated.
