Police recover revolver, two pistols and live cartridges during raid; investigation underway to trace source of weapons
Patna: In a significant crackdown on illegal arms possession, police on Monday arrested a woman from the Mehandiganj locality of Bihar’s capital, Patna, and recovered multiple firearms and ammunition from her possession, officials confirmed.
Woman Held for Illegal Possession of Arms
According to police, the woman was taken into custody on charges of illegally possessing arms and ammunition, following a targeted operation based on specific intelligence inputs. The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb the spread of unauthorised weapons in the city.
Firearms and Ammunition Recovered
Officials said a revolver, two pistols, and 15 live cartridges were seized during the operation. The recovery was made from the woman’s premises in the Mehandiganj area during a search conducted on Monday.
Search Conducted After Tip-Off
Providing details of the operation, Patna (East) Superintendent of Police Parichay Kumar said the police acted swiftly after receiving a tip-off about the presence of illegal weapons.
“Acting on a tip-off, police conducted searches at the premises of the woman in the Mehandiganj locality and recovered arms and ammunition. She claimed these belonged to her late husband but failed to produce the required documents,” said Parichay Kumar, SP (East), Patna.
Claim Made, Documents Not Furnished
During preliminary questioning, the woman reportedly told investigators that the seized weapons belonged to her late husband. However, officials said she could not furnish any valid licence or supporting documents, prompting her arrest under relevant sections of the Arms Act.
Investigation Continues
Police have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the source of the weapons and to determine whether the accused had any links to criminal networks. Authorities are also probing whether the firearms were intended for illegal circulation or use.
Law and Order Focus in Patna
The arrest comes amid heightened police vigilance across Patna, as authorities intensify operations against illegal arms trade and organised crime to maintain law and order in the state capital.
