Multiple Blasts Reported in Tehran, Salmas, Maku and Saqqez While Saudi Arabia Says Three Drones Were Shot Down East of Riyadh

Tehran: A wave of powerful explosions shook several cities across Iran early Friday, raising fears of escalating conflict in the region. According to multiple local media reports, loud blasts were heard in eastern and central parts of Tehran, while additional explosions were reported in western Iranian cities, including Salmas, Maku, and Saqqez.

The incidents occurred early Friday morning, triggering widespread concern as tensions remain high in the region.

Series of Explosions Reported Across Tehran

Local media outlets reported that a series of loud explosions echoed across eastern and central Tehran, prompting authorities to begin monitoring the situation closely.

While officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the blasts, residents in several neighbourhoods reported hearing multiple powerful detonations within a short span of time.

Security agencies are assessing whether the explosions were linked to military activity, air defence operations, or possible attacks.

Blasts Reported in Western Iranian Cities

Apart from Tehran, several western cities also reported explosions, including Salmas, Maku, and Saqqez.

These cities are located near Iran’s northwestern region, close to international borders, which has increased speculation regarding possible military or drone-related incidents.

Authorities have yet to release official casualty figures or damage assessments.

Saudi Arabia Intercepts Drones Near Riyadh

In a related development, Saudi Arabia announced that three drones were intercepted and destroyed east of the Riyadh region on Friday morning.

Saudi defence authorities stated that the drones were neutralised before they could reach their targets, though officials did not immediately confirm where the drones originated from.

The interception has further heightened concerns about growing military tensions in the Middle East.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Discuss War Developments

Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that a council of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps convened its fourth high-level meeting to review developments related to the ongoing conflict.

According to reports, members of the council discussed strengthening Iran’s armed forces, ensuring the supply of essential goods, and preparing for potential wartime challenges.

Discussion on Succession of Iran’s Supreme Leader

The reports also revealed that the council reviewed arrangements to convene the Assembly of Experts, the constitutional body responsible for selecting the next Supreme Leader of Iran.

The discussions reportedly focused on procedures for leadership succession, though Iranian authorities have not issued an official statement confirming the details.

Regional Tensions Continue to Rise

The simultaneous explosions in multiple Iranian cities and the interception of drones near Riyadh have intensified speculation about a broader escalation of conflict in the region.

Security analysts believe the situation could signal a new phase of geopolitical tension in the Middle East, though official confirmation of the causes behind the explosions is still awaited.

Authorities in Iran and Saudi Arabia are continuing to monitor developments closely as the situation unfolds.
