Massive traffic police crackdown exposes 73 drunk drivers including school bus operators; licences face cancellation, raising serious safety concerns

Bengaluru: In a deeply alarming revelation, a special enforcement drive by the Bangalore Traffic Police has uncovered that 59 school bus drivers and 14 water tanker drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol, putting the lives of children and citizens at grave risk.

The shocking findings have triggered widespread concern among parents who believed their children were being transported safely to school. Instead, the crackdown exposed gross negligence and reckless behaviour by those entrusted with young lives.

Drunk Driving Crackdown Stuns Authorities
During a special early morning ‘Drunk and Drive’ operation conducted on March 27, traffic police teams across the city stopped and tested multiple vehicles, focusing specifically on school buses and water tankers.

What emerged was startling: dozens of school bus drivers were found intoxicated while on duty, leaving even the police officials shocked at the scale of irresponsibility.

Traffic Police Operation: Key Numbers
  1. School Bus Drivers: 59
  2. Water Tanker Drivers: 14
In total, 73 drivers were booked under the IMV (Indian Motor Vehicles) Act, and strict action has been initiated against them.

Licences to Be Cancelled
According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Karthik Reddy, reports have been submitted to the RTO (Regional Transport Office) recommending the suspension and cancellation of driving licences (DLs) of the offenders.

Authorities have highlighted that drunk driving, especially involving school vehicles, will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
“Strict action is being taken. Licences of offenders will be suspended, and such negligence will not be allowed to endanger public safety.”
Outrage Against School Managements
The incident has sparked anger among the public, with many questioning the accountability of private school administrations. Despite charging high fees, several schools allegedly fail to conduct proper background checks and monitoring of drivers.

Parents and citizens have raised concerns that if such practices continue, children’s lives could be at constant risk, urging stricter regulations and enforcement.
