Explosive threat emails trigger massive security response across Bengaluru and Kolar as police, bomb squads rush to sensitive locations
Bengaluru: A major security scare gripped Bengaluru after multiple bomb threat emails targeted key government offices and an educational institution linked to Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara. The threats, sent via email, warned of explosions at Siddhartha Medical College and several Regional Transport Office (RTO) centers, triggering panic and emergency action.
The email specifically targeted Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (SSIMST), located near T. Begur in Nelamangala taluk. The message claimed that IEDs loaded with explosive cylinders had been planted and warned of a blast scheduled around 2 PM during prayer time. The sender shockingly stated that the intention was to destroy infrastructure, urging authorities to evacuate students if possible.
“We have planted explosives… evacuate students if you can,” the threatening email reportedly stated, raising serious alarm among authorities.
Following the alert, bomb disposal squads, sniffer dog units, and local police teams rushed to the campus and conducted intensive searches. Security has been tightened, and officials remained stationed at the site as a precaution.
RTO Offices Across Bengaluru Also Targeted
Simultaneously, similar threatening emails were sent to multiple RTO offices in Yeshwanthpur, Rajajinagar, and Koramangala. The emails warned of 10 coordinated explosions around the same time in these busy public offices.
The threats were reportedly sent from an unidentified email ID, prompting immediate complaints by officials. Koramangala Regional Transport Officer L. Deepak filed a police complaint at HSR Layout Police Station, urging swift action considering the heavy daily footfall of officials and citizens.
Kolar RTO Receives Similar Threat
The panic extended to Kolar district as well, where another RTO office received a similar bomb threat email. The message cited alleged disrespect towards certain individuals as the reason behind the planned attack, adding another layer of concern.
Police teams, along with bomb detection and disposal units, conducted thorough inspections at all locations. So far, no explosives have been found, but investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the emails.
Rising Concern Over Repeated Threats
This incident has once again highlighted the growing frequency of hoax bomb threats in Karnataka, raising serious concerns about public safety and misuse of digital platforms. Authorities are now focusing on cyber tracking and forensic analysis to identify those responsible.
Citizens have been urged to remain calm while authorities continue their investigation and ensure safety measures across all sensitive zones.
