Bengaluru: An auto driver in City was arrested after he allegedly ran over a woman and later dumped her body on a garbage heap to evade arrest, sending shockwaves across the city.

The incident took place on the main road of Kengeri Satellite Town, where a 50-year-old woman, Kempamma, was hit by an auto while she was crossing the road.

The accused, identified as Basavegowda, a resident of Kapilanagar near Laggere, was taken into custody by Kengeri police, who also seized the vehicle involved in the crime.

Body Dumped to Destroy Evidence
According to police officials, after the accident, the driver initially attempted to take the injured woman to a nearby private hospital. However, she succumbed to severe bleeding on the way.

Panic-stricken, the accused allegedly dumped the body on a roadside garbage heap and fled the scene, in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence and avoid legal consequences.
“The accused tried to cover up the crime, but technical investigation helped us trace and arrest him,” police sources said.
Accused Tracked Using Technology
A special team led by Inspector Jagadish used technical intelligence and surveillance methods to track down Basavegowda. He was later arrested, and further investigation is underway.

Background of the Accused
Basavegowda hails from Magadi taluk in Bengaluru South district and was residing in Kapilanagar with his family. He was earning his livelihood as an auto driver in the city.
On the night of the incident, he was reportedly returning home after dropping a passenger when the accident occurred.
