24-year-old woman from Kodagu killed by boyfriend in Kodathi area after dispute over marriage; Varthur police arrest accused
Bengaluru: A shocking murder has been reported from Kodathi near Varthur, where a young woman was allegedly killed by her boyfriend following a dispute over marriage. The accused later attempted to stage the incident as a suicide, but the truth was uncovered during police investigation.
The victim has been identified as Ranjitha (24), a native of Kodagu. Police have arrested the accused Ayyappa in connection with the crime.
Love Affair Turns Fatal
According to police sources, both the victim and the accused hail from Ponnampet in Kodagu district. The accused, who was already married but living separately from his first wife, had allegedly promised to marry Ranjitha.
Believing his assurances, Ranjitha reportedly left her home and moved to Bengaluru to live with him.
The couple had been residing for the past two months in a rented house owned by a man named Gopal in the Kodathi area. While Ranjitha was working at DMart, the accused Ayyappa was employed as a supervisor at a dry fruits shop.
Dispute Over Divorce
Police say frequent arguments broke out between the couple as Ranjitha allegedly insisted that Ayyappa legally divorce his first wife and marry her.
The disagreement reportedly escalated late Friday night, leading to a violent confrontation.
Murder and Attempt to Stage Suicide
During the argument, the accused allegedly strangled Ranjitha using a wire, leading to her death.
After committing the crime, Ayyappa reportedly attempted to cover it up by staging the scene as a suicide, making it appear as if Ranjitha had hanged herself from a ceiling fan.
He later informed the house owner that she had taken her own life and rushed her to a hospital.
Police Investigation Exposes Truth
However, when officers from Varthur Police Station arrived at the scene and conducted a detailed inspection, they found suspicious injury marks on the victim’s neck and other evidence in the house, suggesting foul play.
During intense interrogation, the accused eventually confessed to strangling Ranjitha, after which police formally arrested him.
Authorities have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
