Hyderabad–Pamur private bus engulfed in flames within minutes after crash near Rayavaram, 18 injured; probe ordered into cause
Markapuram: In a devastating road accident in Andhra Pradesh’s Markapuram district, at least 10 passengers were burned alive, and 18 others sustained severe injuries after a tipper truck collided head-on with a private travel bus, triggering a massive fire that engulfed the vehicle within minutes.
Collision Turns Catastrophic
According to initial reports, the accident occurred near Rayavaram, near stone quarry areas, when a gravel-laden tipper truck crashed into a private bus travelling from Hyderabad to Pamur. The impact was so intense that the bus caught fire instantly, leaving passengers trapped inside with little chance of escape.
Passengers Trapped in Inferno
The private travel bus, reportedly operated by Harikrishna Travels, was carrying around 40 passengers at the time of the incident. Out of them, 10 passengers died on the spot after being trapped inside the burning bus, while others struggled to escape as flames rapidly spread across the vehicle.
“The fire spread too quickly, and several passengers could not get out in time,” officials said, indicating the severity and suddenness of the blaze.
Rescue Operations Underway
Upon receiving information, police and fire department personnel rushed to the scene and launched rescue operations. The fire was eventually brought under control, but both the bus and the tipper truck were completely gutted by the time emergency teams intervened.
Injured Shifted to Hospitals
At least 18 injured passengers were rescued and shifted to nearby hospitals, many of them reported to be in critical condition. Authorities fear that the death toll could rise further due to the seriousness of injuries sustained by survivors.
Victims Identified from Nearby Regions
Preliminary information suggests that most of the deceased passengers were residents of the Kanigiri and Pamur regions. Several others escaped with minor injuries, while the injured continue to receive treatment.
Investigation Launched
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision and assess whether negligence or mechanical failure played a role in the disaster.
