Koratagere–Tumakuru Road Accident Claims Life of Auto-Rickshaw Driver After Vehicle Overturns and Is Hit by Car
Tumakuru: In a tragic road accident reported from Tumakuru district, an auto-rickshaw driver lost his life after applying sudden brakes to avoid hitting a monkey that was crossing the road. The fatal incident occurred near Jampenahalli village in Koratagere taluk, sending shockwaves across the local community.
According to police sources, the deceased has been identified as Mahendra Kumar, a resident of Sompura. He was driving his auto-rickshaw from Koratagere towards Tumakuru when the incident took place.
Monkey Crosses Road, Triggers Fatal Accident
Eyewitnesses and preliminary police investigations reveal that a monkey suddenly darted across the road near Jampenahalli. In an attempt to save the animal, Mahendra Kumar applied sudden brakes, causing the auto-rickshaw to lose balance and overturn on the road.
Moments later, an Innova car travelling from the Tumakuru side reportedly rammed into the overturned auto-rickshaw. The impact of the collision was severe.
Driver Succumbs to Injuries
Mahendra Kumar sustained critical injuries in the crash. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, despite doctors’ efforts, he succumbed to his injuries, police confirmed.
Police Investigation Underway
Local police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact sequence of events, including vehicle speed and visibility conditions on the stretch. Statements from the car driver and nearby witnesses are being recorded.
Authorities have once again urged motorists to exercise caution on rural and highway roads, especially in areas prone to sudden animal crossings, to prevent such heartbreaking incidents.
