Neighbours rush 35-year-old widow to hospital after screams; woman later referred to Lucknow for advanced care, officials confirm

Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh: A 35-year-old pregnant woman allegedly injured herself during labour on Thursday before delivering a healthy baby girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district, according to officials cited by News Flash Daily. The incident occurred in Nandwal village under the Baundi police station jurisdiction and prompted an urgent medical response after neighbours heard the woman screaming in pain.

The woman, identified as Nankai, was reportedly in severe labour pain at home when the incident occurred. Residents alerted emergency services and rushed her to the Fakharpur Community Health Centre, where doctors conducted a normal delivery, and she gave birth to a healthy baby girl, officials said. However, her condition deteriorated soon after childbirth.

Medical Findings and Emergency Referral
Hospital sources said Nankai was subsequently shifted to the district hospital for further evaluation. Doctors there discovered a deep abdominal wound consistent with an injury allegedly caused by a kitchen knife. Due to significant blood loss and the seriousness of her condition, she was referred to a higher medical facility in Lucknow for advanced treatment.
“She was brought to the hospital around 3.20 pm on Thursday. Her intestines had protruded, and she had suffered significant blood loss,” said the Chief Medical Superintendent of the district hospital, while briefing reporters.
Background and Local Accounts
According to neighbours, Nankai’s husband had passed away due to illness around six months ago, leaving her to live alone. When labour pains intensified on Thursday afternoon, she allegedly acted in distress. An ambulance transported her to the health centre, where the delivery was completed safely for the newborn.
Police confirmed that a video purportedly showing the woman on a stretcher has surfaced on social media. In the clip, she can allegedly be heard attributing her actions to intense labour pain. Authorities said the matter is being looked into, and medical care remains the priority.
Officials said Nankai’s mother, Neeta, accompanied her during the referral to Lucknow. Doctors continue to monitor the woman’s condition, while the newborn remains stable, sources added.
