Chitradurga: In a devastating road accident, three persons lost their lives after a speeding car crashed into a stationary lorry near Hirehalli in Challakere taluk of Chitradurga district on Thursday, police said.


According to preliminary information, five residents of Kunigal in Tumkur district had travelled to Mantralaya for darshan and were returning home when the tragedy struck. The accident reportedly occurred due to overspeeding and driver negligence, resulting in the car being completely mangled upon impact.


The deceased have been identified as Narasimha Murthy, 38, Gangadhar, 35, and Lohit, 40, all residents of Hosakere village in Gubbi taluk. The force of the collision was so severe that the front portion of the car was crushed beyond recognition. Police sources confirmed that the individual seated on the driver’s side suffered fatal head injuries due to the intensity of the crash.


Two Critically Injured Undergoing Treatment

The remaining two occupants sustained serious injuries and were immediately shifted to the Government Hospital in Challakere for treatment. Their condition is said to be critical.

Local police reached the spot soon after the incident and initiated rescue operations. Traffic movement was briefly disrupted before being restored.

SP Visits Spot, Investigation Underway

Superintendent of Police, Chitradurga district, Ranjith Kumar Bandaru, visited the accident site and conducted an inspection. Officials stated that a case has been registered and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events.


Authorities have once again urged motorists to adhere to speed limits and exercise caution, particularly during long-distance travel.
