Puducherry: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his criticism of the India-US trade deal, asserting that the interests of Indian farmers and fishermen have been “fully protected” under the agreement.

Addressing a BJP rally in Karaikal, Puducherry, Shah accused Rahul Gandhi of misleading the public over the provisions of the Free Trade Agreement.

“Rahul Gandhi's policy is to lie loudly and repeat it. But people have recognized yours as a factory of lies,” Amit Shah said, alleging that the Congress leader was creating confusion over the India-US trade pact.

‘100 Per Cent Protection’ for Farmers and Fishermen

Shah urged critics to carefully study the provisions of the Free Trade Agreement and the specific clauses in the India-US trade agreement. He stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured “100 per cent protection” for Indian farmers and fishermen while negotiating the deal.

According to Shah, the agreement safeguards domestic agricultural and fisheries interests and does not compromise the livelihood of rural communities.

Attack on UPA Over Trade Policies

The Union Home Minister also targeted the previous UPA government led by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, alleging that the interests of farmers were “sold out” during that period.

Shah contrasted the current government’s approach with that of the Congress-led regime, claiming that the NDA government prioritizes national interest and grassroots stakeholders in international trade negotiations.

Confident of NDA Return in 2029

Meanwhile, Amit Shah expressed confidence that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance will return to power at the Centre in 2029 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The rally in Karaikal comes amid intensified political exchanges between the BJP and Congress over economic policies and international trade agreements.
