Bengaluru: Actor Darshan, the prime accused in the Renukaswamy murder case, has sought court permission to undergo physiotherapy treatment in jail, citing severe back pain and a spinal condition. His lawyer filed an application before the 58th Additional City Civil and Sessions Court on Thursday, following the judge’s instructions during the previous hearing.
Darshan had raised the issue of his back pain before the judge during Wednesday’s hearing. The judge instructed him to submit a formal application through his lawyer, who filed the petition accordingly.
In his application, Darshan stated that he had been suffering from back pain for 12 years and had a serious problem affecting the L4 and L5 regions of his spine. He also said he had previously received steroid injections to manage the pain.
According to the application, the pain becomes more severe during winter. Darshan claimed that his condition had worsened over the past month, making it difficult for him to sit, stand or sleep at night.
Darshan Seeks Court Intervention for Physiotherapy Treatment
Darshan told the court that he had submitted a request to the jail superintendent a month earlier, seeking permission to undergo physiotherapy. However, he alleged that the jail authorities had not provided the required medical facilities.
He requested the court to direct the jail authorities to arrange appropriate physiotherapy treatment.
The Special Public Prosecutor sought time to file objections to the application submitted by Darshan’s lawyer. The court subsequently adjourned the hearing to Monday.
Until then, the court verbally directed that Darshan be provided with the necessary primary treatment.
What Darshan Told the Judge During Wednesday’s Hearing
Darshan appeared before the court through video conference from jail at the conclusion of Wednesday’s hearing and spoke about his back pain.
He said the cold weather had triggered the pain and that physiotherapy, which had previously been provided inside the jail, had been discontinued.
Darshan requested the judge to instruct the jail authorities to resume the treatment.
The court’s consideration of his latest application will continue on Monday, after the prosecution has had an opportunity to submit its objections.
