Bangladesh Resort Fire Destroys Three-Storey Building
The resort was primarily built using bamboo and wood, allowing the flames to spread quickly. Cox’s Bazar Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Syed Mohammad Morshed Hossain said the entire building was gutted.
The resort is located in Inani, near Patuartek Beach along Marine Drive, approximately 29 kilometres from Kolatoli.
Around 30 people were reportedly present when the fire broke out. Initial reports said four to five people managed to escape, while the condition and whereabouts of other occupants were initially unclear.
Cox’s Bazar Fire Investigation Underway
The cause of the fire has not been officially established. Although some reports suggested that it may have started in the kitchen, authorities have not confirmed this possibility.
Deputy Commissioner A. Mannan said the fire service department was investigating the incident and that the cause would be determined after the inquiry.
The injured were taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. Resident Medical Officer Sabuktagin Mahmud Sohel said five injured people had burns covering approximately five per cent of their bodies and were admitted for treatment. Another person, who was injured in a fall, was discharged after receiving first aid.
Authorities said six bodies had been recovered at the time of one update. DNA samples were to be collected to establish the identities of the deceased before their bodies were handed over to their families.
The investigation is continuing to establish the cause of the fire and the full extent of the casualties.
