Bengaluru: The much-awaited elevated stretch of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Pink Line is likely to be opened for public use by mid-October, subject to the completion of safety inspections and regulatory approvals.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has invited officials from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for the final safety inspection of the route. The inspection is expected to take around two days and may be conducted in early October.
Once the inspection is completed, the required approvals are expected to pave the way for the Pink Line to begin passenger services.
Namma Metro Pink Line Awaits Final Safety Inspection
The CMRS inspection will be a key step before the elevated section can be opened to the public. Following the review, the necessary authorities are expected to consider granting approval for commercial operations.
If the required permissions are secured within the expected timeline, the inauguration of the elevated Pink Line could take place by mid-October.
The Pink Line, also known as Reach 6, is one of the major projects under Bengaluru’s Namma Metro expansion. The project has faced construction and execution delays over the years.
Pink Line To Operate Six Metro Trains Initially
A total of six metro trains are expected to operate on the Pink Line during the initial phase of passenger services.
- During peak hours, trains are expected to operate at an interval of around six minutes. During normal hours, the planned frequency is one train every 10 minutes.
- The project’s development dates back to the late 2000s, when a monorail proposal was initially considered for the Bannerghatta Road corridor. The plan was later changed to a high-capacity metro project amid growing population and traffic requirements.
- Construction activity began in phases from 2017, with the project involving both elevated and underground sections. Delays in construction led to changes in contractors and pushed back the completion timeline.
The proposed October opening will therefore mark an important stage in the expansion of Bengaluru’s metro network.
