Heavy rain brought down a large tree near Smart Bazaar in Bengaluru’s Malleshwaram, damaging three vehicles and blocking traffic as a yellow alert was issued.
Bengaluru: A large tree fell in front of Smart Bazaar in Malleshwaram following heavy rain overnight, damaging three vehicles and blocking vehicular movement on the road.
A car was completely damaged after the tree fell, while branches reportedly landed on a gas auto and a two-wheeler, causing damage to both vehicles.
The fallen tree stretched across the road, obstructing traffic. Locals and motorists have urged Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) staff to remove the tree at the earliest.
Malleshwaram Tree Fall Damages Three Vehicles in Bengaluru
Vinod Kumar, owner of the damaged car, said he usually slept inside the vehicle at night. He said he had left the car after an accident on September 28 and feared the consequences if he had remained inside.
“I used to sleep in my car at night. Yesterday there was a car accident, so I stopped the car and went. If I had slept in the car, it would have been the same for me,” he said.
Kumar also alleged that road excavation work had loosened the base of the tree. He expressed anger at the GBA, holding the agency responsible for the condition that he believes contributed to the tree falling.
