Bank branches across India will remain closed for four consecutive days due to a nationwide strike, second Saturday, Sunday and Ganesh Chaturthi.
Bank branches across India will remain closed from September 11 to September 14 due to a nationwide strike and scheduled holidays, with branch services resuming on Tuesday.
New Delhi: Banking services across India will be affected for four consecutive days from September 11 due to a nationwide bank employees’ strike followed by scheduled holidays.
Customers requiring branch-based services will have to wait until Tuesday, while digital banking facilities such as net banking, mobile banking and UPI are expected to remain available.
Bank Unions Call Nationwide Strike
Bank unions are observing a nationwide strike over demands including the implementation of a five-day working week and pension-related reforms.
The strike coincides with a series of scheduled holidays, resulting in the closure of bank branches for four consecutive days.
Following the strike, banks will remain closed on Saturday due to the second Saturday holiday. Sunday is the regular weekly holiday, while Monday is a public holiday on account of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Bank Branch Services To Resume Tuesday
Branch-based banking services will remain unavailable during the four-day closure period. Customers seeking services such as cheque clearance, demand drafts (DDs) and direct cash transactions from bank accounts will have to wait until branches reopen on Tuesday.
Those with urgent branch-related work have been advised to plan their transactions accordingly.
Digital Banking Services To Continue
Although physical bank branches will remain closed, digital banking services are expected to continue during the holiday period.
Customers can use net banking, mobile banking and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for eligible transactions.
The availability of digital services means customers can continue making many routine payments and transfers without visiting a bank branch.
ATMs May Face Cash Availability Issues
With bank branches remaining closed for four consecutive days, some ATMs may experience cash shortages in certain locations, particularly if demand increases during the holiday period.
Customers who require physical cash have been advised to make necessary withdrawals in advance and avoid depending entirely on ATM availability during the extended closure.
Bank customers should also check their respective bank’s digital platforms for service-specific information before carrying out urgent transactions.
