Five women were among the six passengers killed after a private bus collided with a container truck in Telangana
A private bus travelling from Hyderabad towards Vijayawada collided with a container truck near Durgapuram stage in Suryapet district on Wednesday morning, killing six people and injuring around 12 others.
Suryapet: At least six people, including five women, were killed and around 12 others injured after a private travel bus collided with a container truck on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway in Telangana’s Suryapet district in the early hours of Wednesday.
The accident occurred in the early morning when the private bus was travelling from Hyderabad to Vijayawada. According to police, the crash took place near Durgapuram stage after the bus collided with the truck from behind.
The impact severely damaged the bus's front. Six passengers reportedly died at the scene, while around 12 others sustained injuries and were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
“Six persons, including five women, died in the accident. At least 12 others, who were injured, have been admitted to a hospital,” a senior police official told PTI.
Three of the injured passengers are reportedly in critical condition and have been shifted to Vijayawada for advanced medical treatment.
Suryapet Bus Crash Leaves Six Dead
Preliminary information regarding the accident indicates that the truck may have first collided with a road divider before the private bus hit it from behind. Police are examining the sequence of events to establish how the collision occurred.
There are differing preliminary figures regarding the number of passengers travelling on the bus. Initial information indicated that 42 passengers were aboard, while a subsequent account put the total at 43 passengers.
The injured passengers were immediately taken to nearby hospitals following the crash. The bodies of the six deceased have been shifted to the mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Expresses Condolences
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed condolences over the deaths caused by the accident and conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families.
He also directed the Chief Secretary to take necessary measures to ensure advanced medical care for those injured in the crash, PTI reported.
The authorities are continuing to monitor the condition of the injured passengers receiving treatment at hospitals.
Police Investigate Hyderabad-Vijayawada Highway Accident
Local police reached the accident site soon after receiving information about the crash and began an investigation.
Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the collision, including the movement of the container truck and the private bus before the accident. The exact cause of the crash is yet to be established.
