District judge finds jailed land records case accused Mohammed Hussain in a special room at Mandya MIMS with a woman during surprise inspection

Mandya: A surprise inspection by Mandya District and Sessions Judge C. Chandrashekar at Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) Hospital has raised questions over the treatment, hospital admission and facilities provided to an accused who was supposed to be in judicial custody.
Mandya District and Sessions Judge C. Chandrashekar conducted the inspection at the hospital and found Mohammed Hussain, a key accused in a land records case, staying in a special room.
The inspection also found a woman in the room with Hussain. She reportedly told officials that she was his girlfriend.
The circumstances surrounding Hussain's hospital admission and his stay in a special room are now being examined by the authorities.
Mandya MIMS Inspection Finds Jail Accused in Special Room
Mohammed Hussain had served as an Assistant Director of Land Records (ADLR) at the Srirangapatna Tahsildar's office and is accused in a case involving alleged creation of fake documents to transfer land in favour of others.
Lokayukta police had arrested him in connection with the case, after which he was sent to jail.
During the judge's surprise inspection, however, Hussain was found at MIMS Hospital instead of remaining in prison.
The inspection has raised questions over the circumstances under which he was admitted to the hospital and permitted to stay in a special room.
The judge directed the jail authorities and MIMS medical officials to submit reports explaining Hussain's hospital admission and the circumstances surrounding his stay.
Doctors Say No Serious Illness Reported
During the inspection, the judge questioned the medical officer about Hussain's condition and the reason for his admission.
The medical officer reportedly informed the judge that Hussain did not have a serious illness requiring hospitalisation and treatment at the facility.
The response prompted the judge to question the jail authorities about why an inmate without a serious medical condition had been admitted to the hospital.
Jail officials reportedly told the judge that Hussain had been admitted based on the recommendation of the prison doctor.
Woman Found With Accused in Hospital Room
A woman was also found inside the special room during the inspection. When questioned about her presence, she reportedly said that she was Hussain's girlfriend.
The discovery of a woman in the special room along with a jailed accused prompted the judge to question the jail authorities about the arrangements made for Hussain during his hospital stay.
The circumstances under which the woman was allowed access to the room are also expected to form part of the report sought by the judge.
Judge Questions Jail Officials Over Court Intimation
The judge also reportedly asked the jail authorities whether the court had been informed about Hussain's transfer to the hospital.
- Jail officials said that he had been admitted on the advice of the prison doctor, but reportedly acknowledged that the court had not been informed about the admission.
- The officials told the judge that such information would be brought to the court's notice in future.
The judge expressed dissatisfaction over the response and directed the jail authorities and MIMS medical officials to submit reports on the matter immediately.

The judge has warned that strict legal action could be considered after examining the reports from the jail authorities and hospital officials.
