Uttara Kannada, July 9: Six people lost their lives and four others suffered serious injuries in a devastating head-on collision between a Toofan Cruiser and a lorry near Balagar in Arabail Ghat of Yellapur taluk on Thursday morning. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the fatal accident.
Uttara Kannada: A tragic road accident claimed six lives and left four people critically injured after a Toofan Cruiser carrying tourists collided head-on with a lorry near Balagar in Arabail Ghat of Yellapur taluk in Uttara Kannada district during the early hours of Thursday.
According to preliminary information, the impact of the collision was so severe that the Toofan Cruiser was completely mangled, trapping the occupants inside. Local residents rushed to the scene and joined emergency responders in rescuing the survivors before they were shifted to hospital for treatment.
Uttara Kannada Road Accident Involved Tourist Vehicle
Police said a total of nine people, including the driver, were travelling in the Toofan Cruiser bearing registration number KA 19 AA 5920.
The group had reportedly left on the night of July 8 for a leisure trip covering Dharmasthala and Chikkamagaluru. It has been learnt that all the occupants were working as part-time delivery personnel associated with Swiggy.
While passing through Balagar in Arabail Ghat, the tourist vehicle reportedly collided head-on with a lorry bearing registration number KA 22 AA 1008, which was approaching from the opposite direction.
The force of the impact completely crushed the Cruiser, resulting in multiple fatalities at the scene.
The collision was so severe that the tourist vehicle was extensively damaged, making rescue operations difficult for emergency teams and local residents.
Six Dead and Four Seriously Injured in Arabail Ghat Crash
The accident claimed the lives of six occupants of the Cruiser.
The deceased have been identified as:
- Basavaraj (48)
- Abhishek Eshwar (28)
- Akshaya (26)
- Abhishek (26)
- Sanjeev/Sanjay Angadi
- One more occupant who succumbed to injuries while being shifted to hospital
Four others sustained critical injuries and were admitted to the intensive care unit for advanced treatment.
The injured have been identified as:
- Shivaraj Durgappa Madiwal (22)
- Manjunath Ashok Chulaki (32)
- Sachin
- Chennabasaiah Basalingaiah Sampagava (28)
Hospital authorities are closely monitoring their condition.
Yellapur Police Launch Investigation Into Fatal Collision
Personnel from the Yellapur Police Station reached the accident site shortly after receiving information about the crash.
The officers conducted a spot inspection, documented evidence, and shifted the bodies for post-mortem examination.
A case has been registered, and investigators are examining the circumstances that led to the collision, including road conditions and other possible contributing factors.
Police have initiated a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the fatal accident.

Authorities have informed the families of the deceased, many of whom are reported to be from Dharwad district. News of the tragedy has left relatives and friends devastated.
