The incident occurred late on Friday night in the Indiranagar area of Nashik, prompting a detailed investigation by local police.
Nashik Woman Fatally Attacked Near Temple
According to police, the victim, identified as Vaishnavi Avare (20), was allegedly attacked near a temple in Indiranagar by Sahil Ashok Lavare (26).
Police said local residents rushed to the spot after hearing her cries for help. Despite the intervention, the woman succumbed to her injuries.
The body was shifted for post-mortem examination as part of the investigation.
"Police are examining all available evidence to establish the motive and complete sequence of events," officials said.
Accused Found Dead Hours Later
During the early hours of Saturday, police recovered the body of the accused hanging from a tree near a jogging track in the same locality.
Based on the preliminary investigation, authorities suspect the accused died by suicide after the alleged attack. However, police said the exact circumstances will be confirmed only after completing the investigation.
Police Continue Investigation
Investigators are collecting forensic evidence, reviewing CCTV footage, and recording statements from witnesses to reconstruct the incident.
Police have not disclosed the motive behind the alleged crime and stated that all aspects of the case are being examined.
"The investigation remains ongoing, and further details will emerge after forensic reports and witness statements are analysed," police added.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation while the investigation is in progress.
