Heavy monsoon rainfall and weather alerts have prompted district administrations across Karnataka to declare holidays for schools and colleges on July 7. The precautionary closures apply to educational institutions in parts of Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Belagavi, Shivamogga and Hassan districts to ensure student safety.

Karwar: Several district administrations in Karnataka have announced school and college holidays for Monday, July 7, following incessant monsoon rainfall and forecasts of continued heavy showers across parts of the state.


The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to safeguard students amid heavy rain, strong winds and the possibility of waterlogging, landslides and other weather-related disruptions. The holiday orders cover selected districts and taluks where rainfall has intensified over the past few days.


Karnataka School Holidays Declared in Uttara Kannada

With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a Red Alert for Uttara Kannada district, Deputy Commissioner Lakshmi Priya has declared a holiday for educational institutions in five taluks on July 7.


The holiday applies to:

  • Anganwadis
  • Primary schools
  • High schools

Taluks covered:

  • Sirsi
  • Siddapur
  • Joida
  • Dandeli
  • Yellapur

Officials said the closure has been ordered to prioritise student safety amid the forecast of continued heavy rainfall.

"The holiday has been declared as a precautionary measure in view of the prevailing weather conditions and heavy rain forecast."

Chikkamagaluru Schools Closed in Three Taluks

The district administration has also announced a holiday for educational institutions in three Malnad taluks of Chikkamagaluru district.


District Commissioner Bhanwar Singh Meena issued orders declaring a holiday for:

  • Anganwadis
  • Primary schools
  • High schools

Taluks covered:

  • Koppa
  • Sringeri
  • Kalasa

The administration cited persistent rainfall and the need to ensure student safety as the primary reasons for the closure.


Belagavi Schools and Colleges to Remain Closed

Following widespread rainfall across Belagavi district, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan has declared a one-day holiday for educational institutions in Belagavi and Khanapur taluks.


The order applies to:

  • Anganwadis
  • Primary schools
  • High schools
  • Pre-University (PU) colleges

The holiday applies to both urban and rural educational institutions.


Officials said rainfall is expected to continue across the Western Ghats region and Belagavi city, prompting the precautionary closure.


Sagar Taluk Schools and Colleges Shut

Continuous rainfall accompanied by strong winds has also affected Sagar taluk in Shivamogga district.


On the directions of the Tahsildar, Field Education Officer Sadananda Swamy issued an order declaring a holiday on July 7 for:

  • Anganwadis
  • Primary schools
  • High schools
  • Colleges

Authorities have instructed educational institutions to compensate for the lost academic day at a later date.

"The holiday has been declared in the interest of student safety as heavy rainfall continues in the region."

Holiday Declared in Hassan's Sakleshpur Taluk

Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the past several days have prompted the Sakleshpur taluk administration in Hassan district to suspend classes on July 7.


Tahsildar Supritha issued the order, which covers:

  • Anganwadis
  • Primary schools
  • High schools
  • Colleges

Officials said the precautionary measure was necessary due to persistent rainfall over the past five days and the possibility of further adverse weather.


Authorities Urge Residents to Follow Weather Advisories

District administrations have urged residents to remain alert and monitor official weather updates as heavy rainfall is expected to continue in several parts of Karnataka.


Parents and students have been advised to follow announcements issued by local authorities regarding educational institutions and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.


The India Meteorological Department has forecast continued monsoon activity across coastal and Malnad regions over the coming days, with the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
