Police probe the brutal Hubballi assault as the victim undergoes treatment and investigators examine the motive behind the alleged abduction and attack
Hubballi: A young man was allegedly abducted and brutally assaulted inside a shed in Hubballi, Karnataka, in an incident that has triggered concern over violent crimes involving wrongful confinement. Police have launched an investigation after the victim alleged that he was forcibly taken away by a group of men and severely beaten over a suspected old rivalry.
According to preliminary information, the victim, identified as Taufiq Horakeri, was on his way to work when he was intercepted by the accused near the bridge connecting Deshpande Nagar and Ashok Nagar. The attackers allegedly forced him into a vehicle before taking him to a shed near Moulali Dargah on Mantur Road, where the assault reportedly took place.
Hubballi Abduction and Shed Assault Under Investigation
Police said Taufiq Horakeri was allegedly confined inside the shed adjoining the dargah and assaulted by a group of youths. After the attack, the seriously injured victim was shifted to Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Hubballi, where he is undergoing treatment.
In his statement, the victim alleged that the assault was carried out by a group led by individuals identified as Jiddhi Malik and Akash. Authorities are verifying these allegations as part of the ongoing investigation.
"The motive behind the attack is suspected to be an old rivalry, though the exact circumstances are being investigated," police sources said.
The incident falls within the jurisdiction of the Ashok Nagar Police Station and the Hubballi City Police, who have initiated legal proceedings and are working to identify and trace all those allegedly involved.
Police Probe Possible Motive Behind the Assault
Investigators suspect that a previous dispute may have triggered the alleged kidnapping and assault. However, officials have not announced any final conclusions and are examining witness statements, available evidence, and other leads before confirming the motive.
Police are also expected to review CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and gather forensic evidence from the alleged crime scene as part of the investigation.
Pattern of Violent Abduction Cases Raises Concern
The Hubballi incident has renewed attention on a disturbing pattern of violent crimes involving abduction and wrongful confinement reported in Karnataka in recent years. While investigators have not linked this case to any previous incident, several unrelated criminal cases across the state have involved victims being forcibly taken to isolated locations and assaulted.
Among the most widely reported was the Renukaswamy murder case in Bengaluru in June 2024, in which the victim was allegedly abducted, confined in a vehicle-seizure shed, and fatally assaulted. The case remains under judicial trial, and legal proceedings are continuing.
Other separate cases reported in Karnataka include:
- Hubballi Moral Policing Assault (June 2026): A 22-year-old man was allegedly abducted from a roadside eatery and assaulted inside a shed after being questioned for dining with a woman from another community. Police arrested five accused in connection with the case.
- Bengaluru Student Abduction Case (July 2025): A 19-year-old student was allegedly kidnapped by a group of youths over personal differences, taken to an isolated location, assaulted, and the incident was reportedly recorded on video.
- Temple Priest Kidnapping Case (May 2026): A 27-year-old temple priest was allegedly abducted, wrongfully confined, and assaulted over a family-related dispute before being forced to record a video statement.
- BTM Layout Ransom Kidnapping (April 2026): A college student was allegedly abducted by fellow students for ransom before being rescued by police following a rapid emergency response.
While these incidents occurred under different circumstances and involve separate investigations, they have collectively raised concerns over the increasing use of abduction and illegal confinement in violent crimes across Karnataka.
Police have not yet announced arrests in connection with the latest Hubballi assault. Officials said efforts are underway to identify all suspects, establish the sequence of events, and determine the exact motive behind the attack. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
