BMTC said over 1,700 electric buses operate daily and dismissed reports claiming that more than 500 buses remain off the roads
BMTC has clarified that 1,760 electric buses are currently operating across Bengaluru through four authorised operators. The Corporation stated that reports claiming more than 500 electric buses remain non-operational every day are incorrect, adding that temporary service interruptions involving a small percentage of buses are part of routine fleet management and maintenance in any large public transport system.
Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has refuted claims regarding the daily operation of its electric bus fleet, stating that 1,760 electric buses are operating across various city routes through four contracted electric bus operators. According to the Corporation, the buses are being deployed every day in accordance with scheduled timetables to provide public transport services across Bengaluru.
BMTC stated that the electric bus fleet is operated by M/s NTPC Electric Supply Company Limited, M/s Switch Mobility Automotive Limited, M/s TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Limited, and M/s OHM Global Mobility Private Limited. The Corporation said it continues to coordinate with these operators to ensure uninterrupted services and maintain operational efficiency.
"BMTC currently operates 1,760 electric buses across Bengaluru through four authorised electric bus operators," the Corporation said.
BMTC says electric buses operate as per scheduled services
According to BMTC, more than 1,700 electric buses are deployed daily on different routes across Bengaluru, serving lakhs of passengers.

The Corporation stated that the buses are operating successfully in accordance with approved schedules and are contributing to the city's public transport network by providing regular services throughout the day.
BMTC added that it regularly monitors fleet performance and works closely with operators to ensure that services remain available across designated routes.
BMTC rejects reports on non-operational electric buses
Responding to reports that claimed more than 500 electric buses remain off the roads every day, BMTC said the information is factually incorrect.
The Corporation explained that in any large public transport network, it is normal for 1–2% of buses to be temporarily unavailable due to routine technical maintenance, battery servicing, scheduled inspections, staff availability or other operational requirements.
"Temporary service interruptions affecting a small percentage of buses are part of routine maintenance and operational management in a large public transport system," BMTC stated.
According to the Corporation, such temporary interruptions should not be interpreted as a large-scale suspension of electric bus services.
Routine maintenance part of fleet management
BMTC said periodic maintenance is carried out to ensure that electric buses continue to operate safely and in compliance with operational standards.
The Corporation noted that battery servicing, preventive maintenance, technical inspections and workforce management are routine operational processes followed across the fleet. These measures are intended to maintain service reliability while minimising disruptions to passengers.
BMTC added that operational planning is carried out in coordination with the contracted operators to ensure replacement arrangements whenever required.
BMTC reiterates commitment to Bengaluru public transport
The Corporation reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Bengaluru's public transport system by expanding and efficiently operating its electric bus fleet.
BMTC stated that it will continue working with its operating partners to provide safe, reliable, efficient and timely transportation services to commuters across the city while maintaining operational standards and service continuity.
