Raichur: Two young men were killed, and two others sustained serious injuries after a portion of a commercial complex collapsed near the bus stand in Devdurga town of Raichur district on Saturday. The accident occurred when the staircase and an adjoining wall of the building suddenly gave way, trapping four pedestrians beneath the debris.
Police rushed to the scene soon after the collapse and launched rescue operations with the help of local residents. The incident triggered panic in the busy commercial area and raised concerns over the structural safety of ageing buildings.
Raichur Commercial Complex Collapse Leaves Two Dead
The deceased have been identified as Nagaraj Kyadigera (26) and Ravikumar (27), who died at the scene after being trapped under the collapsed structure.
The injured, identified as Umesh and Abhishek, were rescued from the debris and shifted to the Devdurga Taluk Hospital for emergency treatment. Hospital authorities said both sustained serious injuries and remain under medical care.

The building staircase and Wall Suddenly Collapsed
According to preliminary information, the commercial complex, located close to the Devdurga bus stand, was functioning normally with several shops open for business when the incident occurred.
Police said the staircase and a portion of the adjoining wall collapsed without warning. At the time of the accident, four young men were walking along the road beside the building when they were buried under the falling debris.
Local residents immediately alerted emergency services and joined rescue efforts before police and other officials arrived at the scene.
Police Launch Investigation Into Building Collapse
The Devdurga Police visited the accident site, secured the area and conducted a preliminary inspection.
Officials have begun an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collapse, including whether structural weakness, poor maintenance or any other factors contributed to the tragedy.
Authorities are also expected to examine the condition of the building and verify whether it complies with prescribed safety standards.

The MLA also assured that appropriate assistance would be extended to the affected families and that the circumstances surrounding the collapse would be thoroughly investigated.
