Karachi: At least three personnel of the Sindh Rangers were killed after a powerful explosion, followed by intense gunfire targeted the provincial headquarters of the paramilitary force in Pakistan's Karachi on Saturday. The attack triggered a major security operation across the area, with police, Rangers and specialised response teams rushing to the scene.
According to local media reports, an explosives-laden vehicle was allegedly driven into the Sindh Rangers headquarters in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire between the attackers and security personnel. Authorities immediately sealed off nearby roads and launched a large-scale search operation.

Following the explosions, Pakistan's Rapid Response Force, police commandos and additional Rangers units were dispatched to reinforce security and neutralise the threat.
Security agencies launched extensive search operations in and around Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Mosamiat Chowrangi and adjoining localities to trace any remaining attackers or accomplices.
Authorities also increased security at several sensitive installations across Karachi as a precautionary measure while bomb disposal experts and forensic teams began examining the blast sites.
Traffic movement around the affected areas remained heavily restricted during the operation.
Karachi Rangers Headquarters Attack Claimed by Jamaat-ul-Ahrar
The extremist organisation Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA), a splinter faction of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed responsibility for the attack through its affiliated communication channels.
According to the group's statement, the assault was allegedly carried out by its suicide unit known as the Khulafa-e-Rashideen Istishhadi Brigade.
However, Pakistani authorities had not independently verified the claim at the time of reporting and continued their investigation into the identities of those involved.
Investigators are also working to establish the exact sequence of events and determine whether additional individuals were involved in planning or facilitating the attack.
Karachi Rangers Headquarters Attack Prompts Sindh Government Investigation
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said he had taken immediate notice of reports regarding the explosion and firing incident and directed senior police officials to submit a comprehensive report.
"Police should immediately reach the scene, determine the nature of the incident, and take all necessary measures," the Chief Minister said in an official statement.
The provincial administration has instructed law enforcement agencies to maintain heightened security across Karachi while continuing the investigation.
Authorities are also expected to review intelligence inputs and surveillance footage as part of the probe.
Karachi Rangers Headquarters Attack Highlights Rising Extremist Violence in Pakistan
The latest attack comes amid a continued increase in extremist violence targeting Pakistan's police and security forces.
Pakistani authorities have repeatedly blamed the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and affiliated extremist organisations for several recent attacks across the country.
Security experts believe militant groups have intensified attacks on government and security installations in an attempt to destabilise law enforcement operations.
The investigation into the Karachi Rangers headquarters attack is continuing, with authorities expected to release further details as the probe progresses.
