In a disturbing incident in Bengaluru’s Mahadevapura area, a 32-year-old home guard named Manjula was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband Pradeep in front of their children. The accused has been arrested by police, and an investigation is underway into the motive, which reportedly includes financial distress linked to betting addiction and long-standing domestic disputes.

Bengaluru: A horrific case of domestic violence has shaken Bengaluru after a 32-year-old woman working as a home guard was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband in front of their children in the Mahadevapura area on Monday night.

The victim, identified as Manjula, was working at the Mahadevapura police station as a home guard. Police said she was attacked and killed by her husband Pradeep following a domestic dispute that escalated into extreme violence.

The incident has triggered widespread shock in the city and renewed concerns over rising cases of domestic abuse linked to financial stress and gambling addiction.

The incident occurred around 9 pm at a residence near Pushpanjali Theatre in Mahadevapura. According to police, the accused Pradeep allegedly carried out the attack inside the house while the victim’s children were present.

Preliminary investigation suggests that Pradeep had been struggling with betting addiction through mobile applications, which reportedly led to repeated conflicts within the family. Police sources indicate that long-standing marital disputes had been ongoing for years.

Accused Allegedly Recorded Video Before Attack

In a disturbing development, police said the accused allegedly recorded a video message before committing the crime.

In the video, Pradeep reportedly expressed frustration over his financial condition and alleged that his family life had been affected due to his betting addiction. He also made accusations against his in-laws, claiming interference in domestic matters.

Investigators are examining the authenticity and contents of the video as part of the ongoing probe.

Domestic Dispute and Betting Addiction Allegations

According to preliminary information, Pradeep and Manjula had been married for approximately 15 years. Over time, the accused reportedly developed a betting addiction, which allegedly led to financial instability and frequent disputes in the household.

Police sources also said that the accused had grown suspicious about the children’s parentage, further escalating tensions within the family. The victim had reportedly moved to her parental home earlier due to repeated harassment but had returned to the marital residence.

On the day of the incident, Pradeep allegedly entered the home after pretending to apologise and later attacked her with a knife.

Brutal Attack in Front of Children

Investigators said the accused carried a concealed knife inside his clothing and launched a sudden assault inside the house. The victim was reportedly stabbed multiple times in front of her children, leading to her death on the spot.

Police stated that the attack was swift and extremely violent, leaving little opportunity for intervention.

After the assault, Pradeep allegedly attempted to harm himself by inflicting injuries on his hand before being apprehended.

Police Arrest Accused in Mahadevapura Case

The Mahadevapura police acted quickly after receiving information about the incident and arrested the accused at the scene. The body of the victim has been sent for postmortem examination as part of standard legal procedures.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to establish the complete sequence of events, including the motive and prior history of domestic disputes.

Authorities are also examining digital evidence, including the alleged pre-recorded video, to understand the psychological and financial factors that may have contributed to the crime.

Rising Concern Over Domestic Violence Cases in Bengaluru

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over domestic violence cases in urban Karnataka, particularly those linked to financial stress, addiction, and long-term marital disputes.

Legal experts and social workers have emphasised the need for stronger intervention mechanisms to address early warning signs in domestic conflict situations before they escalate into fatal violence.
