Beltangady police register UDR case after family alleges negligent treatment led to death of injured man

Dakshina Kannada: Police in Dakshina Kannada district have registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) case following allegations of medical negligence in the treatment of a man who later died after sustaining injuries in a bull attack.

The complaint was filed by Nasiruddin P Bin Sufi Beary, a 36-year-old resident of Gerukatte in Beltangady, regarding the death of his brother Mohammed Shareef P.

According to the complaint, Mohammed Shareef, 35, suffered serious injuries after being gored by a bull at his residence on the night of May 14.

He was initially admitted to Surya Hospital for treatment following the incident.

Family Alleges Negligent Treatment at Uppinangady Hospital

The complainant alleged that doctors at the hospital failed to provide proper medical care and that negligence during treatment caused Mohammed Shareef’s health condition to worsen.

As his condition reportedly deteriorated, the patient was later shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru on May 16 for advanced treatment.

However, despite continued medical care, Mohammed Shareef succumbed to his injuries on May 20.

“The patient’s condition worsened due to negligent treatment at the hospital,” the complainant alleged in the police complaint.

Beltangady Police Register UDR Case

Following the complaint, Beltangady Police Station registered a UDR case under Section 194(3)(iv) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.

The case has been registered as UDR No. 28/2026 and an investigation is currently underway.

Police officials stated that communication has already been initiated with the concerned department seeking the constitution of a medical expert team to examine the allegations of negligence.

The medical team is expected to review treatment records, procedures followed during hospitalization and other relevant details before submitting a report.

Medical Team Report to Decide Further Legal Action

Authorities stated that appropriate legal action, if necessary, will be taken only after the expert medical report is received and examined. Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
