Fresh forensic examination ordered after family challenges initial suicide findings and alleges foul play by in-laws
Unnao: The mysterious death of a newly married woman in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district has taken a significant turn after her body was exhumed and subjected to a second post-mortem examination following directions from the High Court. The development comes amid serious allegations by the victim's family, who have questioned the findings of the initial autopsy and accused her in-laws of involvement in her death.
The deceased, identified as Kainat, was found dead under suspicious circumstances on May 15, just months after her marriage. Family members have consistently alleged harassment by her husband's family and suspect that her death was not a case of suicide as initially reported.
High Court Orders Fresh Post-Mortem in Kainat Death Investigation
Acting on a petition filed by Kainat's family, the High Court directed authorities to exhume the body and conduct a fresh forensic examination. The order was issued after relatives raised concerns over multiple injury marks allegedly found on Kainat's body before her burial.
On Friday, officials from the Unnao administration, accompanied by police personnel and a magistrate, supervised the exhumation process at the Begumpurwa Bagahi Eidgah cemetery in Kanpur. The body was then transported to Unnao, where a second post-mortem examination was carried out. After completion of the procedure, the body was reburied at the same cemetery.
Police officials stated that further legal action would depend on the findings of the fresh post-mortem report.
"The family is hopeful that the second post-mortem will reveal the actual cause of death and establish the truth behind the incident."
Family Alleges Body Was Stored in Deep Freezer
According to family members, they rushed to Unnao after receiving a phone call from Binu, the elder brother of Kainat's husband, informing them that her health had suddenly deteriorated.
However, upon reaching the residence, relatives claim they found Kainat already dead. The family further alleged that her body had been kept inside a deep freezer and that most members of the in-laws' family, including her husband Shimbu Ansari, were missing from the house.
These circumstances deepened suspicions and prompted the family to accuse the in-laws of foul play.
Injury Marks Raised Doubts Over Initial Post-Mortem Report
Following the death, police conducted an initial investigation and a post-mortem examination, which reportedly concluded that Kainat had died by hanging.
The body was subsequently buried in Kanpur. However, during traditional funeral preparations, women relatives allegedly observed multiple injury marks on various parts of the body. The discovery led family members to question the accuracy of the first autopsy report.
Believing that crucial evidence may have been overlooked, the family approached the High Court seeking an independent and transparent investigation.
Marriage Followed by Alleged Harassment
Family members stated that Kainat, daughter of Rafiq from the Chakeri area of Kanpur, was married to Shimbu Ansari of Bangarmau in Unnao on December 7, 2024.
Relatives allege that she began facing harassment from her in-laws shortly after the marriage. They claim repeated disputes and mistreatment had caused distress in the months leading up to her death.
These allegations have now become a central focus of the ongoing investigation.
Fresh Report Expected to Determine Next Course of Action
Authorities are awaiting the results of the second post-mortem examination, which could play a crucial role in determining whether the case involves suicide, homicide, or other criminal offences.
The family continues to demand justice and has urged investigators to thoroughly examine all evidence surrounding the circumstances of Kainat's death.
As the case unfolds, the fresh forensic findings are expected to provide critical clarity in a matter that has sparked widespread attention and raised questions about the initial investigation.
