Rail Neer Overpricing, Poor Facilities, Security Lapses Highlighted as Railways Assure ‘Action’, Public Reactions Pour In
Patna: A viral social media post has ignited a nationwide debate over passenger facilities in Indian Railways after a young girl from Patna exposed alleged overcharging and poor conditions inside trains and railway stations.
The issue gained traction after Divya Gandotra Tandon shared a video highlighting multiple concerns faced by daily commuters. The video points to systemic issues such as inflated prices for basic necessities, lack of security, and deteriorating infrastructure.
“A young girl named Sangeeta from Patna has bravely exposed the deteriorating state of @RailMinIndia. From overcharging for basic amenities like Rail Neer to the lack of security and basic infrastructure, her video highlights the harsh truth that many commuters face daily.”
- Overcharging: Rail Neer bottles, officially priced at ₹14, allegedly sold for Rs. 20
- Security Gaps: Absence of railway police or staff to manage heavy crowds
- Poor Infrastructure: Broken seats, damaged windows and doors, unhygienic washrooms
- Administrative Apathy: Lack of visible improvements despite public expenditure
The video has resonated widely, with many users echoing similar experiences across different railway zones.
“It’s high time our ministers and bureaucrats woke up and addressed these long-standing issues,” the viral post stated.
Additionally, North Western Railway also responded, assuring that the issue would be examined by the relevant authorities.
One user alleged that vendors overcharge with the “approval of officials,” claiming a lack of accountability. Another user compared Indian conditions with countries like Europe and China, arguing that public behaviour also plays a role in maintaining infrastructure and cleanliness.
