Hyderabad: A disturbing incident of public harassment captured on CCTV in Hyderabad has triggered anger across social media and raised fresh concerns over women’s safety in residential areas. The incident reportedly took place in the Manikonda–Neknampur area near Alkapur Township, where a woman walking home with her child was allegedly harassed by a man in broad daylight.
The shocking visuals, now widely circulating online, show the accused approaching the woman from behind before allegedly lifting her dress in public and fleeing the scene moments later.
Hyderabad Woman Harassment Incident Captured on CCTV
According to reports, the incident occurred on the afternoon of May 14 near Pranathi Eesha Apartments in Alkapur Township. The woman was reportedly returning home from school while carrying her young child in one arm and holding an umbrella in the other.
As seen in the CCTV footage, a man suddenly approached from behind and allegedly misbehaved with the woman in the middle of the road before quickly running away from the area.
The woman appeared briefly shocked by the sudden act but immediately turned around and reacted strongly. The accused fled after noticing her response.
Despite the traumatic moment, the woman reportedly gathered herself and began walking in the direction in which the accused escaped.
Viral Video Triggers Public Anger Over Women’s Safety
The CCTV footage rapidly spread across social media platforms, leading to widespread condemnation from residents and online users.
Many people described the act as deeply disturbing and questioned the safety of women even in busy residential neighborhoods during daytime hours.
Local residents expressed concern over increasing incidents of street harassment and called for stronger security measures and quicker action against offenders targeting women in public places.
“If such incidents happen openly in residential areas during the daytime, it raises serious concerns about public safety,” residents reportedly said while reacting to the viral footage.
Hyderabad Police Launch Suo Motu Investigation
Following the circulation of the video online, police officials from the Narasingi Police Station reportedly initiated a suo motu investigation into the incident.
The investigation is being led under the supervision of Inspector G. Hari Krishna Reddy. Officials stated that although the victim had not yet formally approached the police and her identity had not been confirmed, authorities decided to act independently considering the seriousness of the incident.
Police teams are now examining CCTV footage from surrounding areas to identify and trace the accused.
Public Demand for Stronger Action Against Harassment Cases
Activists and residents have urged authorities to strengthen patrolling in residential localities and ensure swift punishment for offenders involved in public harassment incidents.
As the investigation continues, the viral Hyderabad CCTV video has become another reminder of growing public concern regarding safety and security for women in Indian cities.
