Passenger confrontation at Gaya Junction sparks outrage online over alleged illegal extra charges on railway tickets
Gaya: A viral video from Gaya Junction Railway Station has triggered widespread outrage on social media after passengers allegedly exposed unauthorised overcharging at a railway ticket booking point intended to help commuters avoid long queues.
The incident, which was captured on video and is now circulating widely online, reportedly involved a railway ticket priced at ₹345 allegedly being sold for ₹360, raising fresh concerns over the exploitation of passengers through small but repeated excess charges.
According to the viral clip, the confrontation began after a few passengers noticed a mismatch between the fare printed on the ticket and the amount being collected.
Passengers Question Alleged Overcharging at Railway Ticket Machine
As seen in the viral video, the passengers questioned the individual handling the railway ticket booking process near the automatic ticket machine facility.
The passengers reportedly asked why ₹360 was being collected for a ticket officially priced at ₹345.
They further alleged that additional money had been taken on multiple tickets before the issue was challenged publicly.
“If the ticket costs ₹345, why are you charging ₹360? We bought three tickets, why did you take ₹45 extra?” passengers were heard asking in the viral clip.
According to the passengers, the extra amount was reportedly returned immediately after the confrontation and recording began.
However, the situation allegedly became tense when passengers reminded the man that the ticket machines were introduced by Indian Railways to help common people avoid middlemen and book tickets independently.
The individual allegedly responded aggressively and reportedly told the passengers, “Jo karna hai kar lo,” after being questioned.
Viral Video Sparks Debate Over Passenger Exploitation
The incident has sparked intense discussions online regarding passenger awareness, transparency and alleged misuse of public ticket booking facilities.
Many social media users pointed out that poor, elderly and uneducated passengers often trust middlemen near railway stations and may not notice small excess charges being collected.
Users argued that although individual overcharges may appear minor, repeated unauthorized collections from hundreds of passengers could eventually become a large-scale exploitation issue.
“Corruption does not always happen in crores. Sometimes it survives through small thefts from helpless people every day,” several users commented while reacting to the viral incident.
Demands Grow for Strict Monitoring at Railway Stations
The viral video has now intensified public demands for stricter supervision around railway ticket vending systems and stronger action against unauthorized agents operating near stations.
Passengers and social media users have urged railway authorities to improve monitoring mechanisms and spread awareness about official fares so travelers can avoid being overcharged.
The incident has once again highlighted growing public frustration over alleged small-scale corruption and unauthorized charges faced by ordinary citizens in public services.
Railway authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the viral allegations.
