Davangere: The ruling Congress has successfully reclaimed the Davangere South Assembly constituency, with candidate Samarth Shamanur emerging victorious in the by-election triggered by the death of senior leader Shamanur Shivashankarappa. Shamanur defeated BJP candidate Srinivas Das Kariappa by a margin of 5,708 votes, consolidating Congress’s position in the region despite internal dissent and a fragmented vote base.
The by-election result marks a significant political gain for the Congress, which also retained control over key constituencies, including Bagalkot, reinforcing its electoral strength in Karnataka.
