Bengaluru North Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar conducts a field inspection, directs urgent action on waterlogging, underpass design and airport corridor cleanliness

Bengaluru: In a move aimed at addressing persistent civic concerns, Pommala Sunil Kumar, Commissioner of the Bengaluru North City Corporation, carried out a comprehensive inspection of infrastructure and public issues in Yelahanka, issuing strict directions for immediate corrective action.

The inspection focused on underpass infrastructure, drainage challenges and sanitation conditions, which have long affected commuters and residents in the area.

Underpass Design and Traffic Concerns Reviewed

During the visit, the Commissioner inspected the Judicial Layout Railway Underpass and, based on public feedback, observed the need to increase the depth of the underpass to improve vehicular movement.

He directed officials to coordinate with the Railway Department and initiate necessary works to ease congestion and enhance usability.

The Commissioner also reviewed ongoing infrastructure projects in Judicial Layout, being undertaken by the State Government.

Waterlogging at Coffee Day Underpass Raises Safety Concerns

The inspection extended to the Coffee Day Underpass in Yelahanka, where frequent waterlogging during the monsoon has emerged as a major issue impacting both traffic flow and public safety.

Highlighting the urgency, the Commissioner instructed officials to implement immediate technical solutions to prevent water accumulation.

“Prompt technical measures must be taken to resolve waterlogging and ensure smooth movement,” he directed.

Drainage System Upgrade and Maintenance Emphasised

Stressing long-term solutions, the Commissioner called for improved drainage infrastructure, efficient water outflow systems and regular maintenance to prevent stagnation in underpasses.

Officials were directed to prioritise drainage upgrades to mitigate recurring monsoon-related disruptions.

Cleanliness Lapses on Airport Corridor Draw Strong Reaction

Expressing strong displeasure over sanitation conditions along the Airport National Highway corridor, the Commissioner instructed officials to coordinate with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and ensure continuous cleaning operations.

He issued strict directions to the Assistant General Manager of Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML), Yelahanka Division, to take immediate and sustained action to improve cleanliness standards.

Enhanced Night Patrols for Public Safety

In addition to infrastructure measures, the Commissioner directed that night patrolling by marshals be intensified and extended till 1:00 AM, aiming to improve safety along key stretches.

Officials Present, Assurance of Swift Action

The inspection was attended by Joint Commissioner Pallavi, Executive Engineer Sudhakar Reddy, and other officials.

The Commissioner assured that civic infrastructure issues will be addressed on priority, with a focus on public convenience, safety and long-term urban planning solutions.
