US President Donald Trump claims Iran’s military was crushed, warns of a fresh offensive, rules out nuclear ambitions, and questions the relevance of the Strait of Hormuz

Washington:
In a dramatic and high-stakes national address, Donald Trump declared a “swift and decisive victory” over Iran, asserting that American forces have crippled Tehran’s military infrastructure while warning that a massive new offensive could be launched within weeks. The address comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, with uncertainty looming over ceasefire possibilities and diplomatic breakdowns.

Delivering his first major speech since the outbreak of the conflict, Trump claimed that Iran’s navy has been completely destroyed, its air force devastated, and the leadership of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps “decimated.” The statement has intensified global concerns about a prolonged and potentially wider regional war.

“We will launch a massive attack on Iran within two to three weeks,” Trump warned, underlining Washington’s aggressive posture.

Diplomacy Rejected, Military Dominance Asserted

Trump emphasised that the United States had initially pursued diplomacy, but accused Tehran of rejecting compromise and continuing its nuclear ambitions. He reiterated that Iran must never become a nuclear power, describing its program as a global threat.

US Expands Strategic and Economic Narrative

In a surprising pivot, Trump referenced Venezuela, claiming that US forces executed a rapid and forceful operation to gain control, earning international recognition. He also highlighted plans to develop and commercialise Venezuela’s vast oil and gas reserves, projecting America’s expanding energy influence.

Military Objectives Near Completion

According to Trump, the US is on the verge of achieving all its military objectives in Iran, including dismantling missile systems, weakening defense infrastructure, and neutralizing naval capabilities. He assured that the campaign would conclude “very quickly,” though his warning of further strikes suggests otherwise.

Gulf Allies Assured Protection

Trump reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to defending its Gulf allies, stating that the US would respond “in any form or means necessary.” His broader strategy includes crippling Iran’s missile production and ensuring long-term regional security dominance.

Hormuz No Longer Critical, Claims Trump

In one of the most controversial remarks, Trump dismissed the importance of the Strait of Hormuz, stating that the US no longer depends on the vital oil transit route.

“We have not needed the Strait of Hormuz, nor do we need it,” he asserted.

He further suggested that nations unwilling to support US efforts should consider purchasing oil directly from Washington, signalling a shift in global energy dynamics.

Global Reactions and Rising Uncertainty

The speech, lasting nearly 20 minutes, justified US military actions while projecting confidence in America’s economic and strategic strength. Trump claimed that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has had no impact on the US economy, adding that “Iran is no longer a threat” and that Washington “holds all the cards.”

Meanwhile, Tehran has rejected US demands, calling them excessive and ruling out direct negotiations, raising fears that the conflict could intensify further in the coming weeks.
